Visual Artist Series Presents Wendy Osterweil Sept. 8

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Printmaker and Fiber Artist Wendy Osterweil will be the first presenter this fall in the Visual Artist Series at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Conference Room, Angell College Center.

Printmaker and Fiber Artist Wendy Osterweil Osterweil earned her undergraduate degree from Temple University in 1979 and an M.F.A. at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1986. She is currently an assistant professor of art and art education at Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa. Her work is exhibited nationally, and she has received numerous awards including a Kast Foundation Grant and a Vilas Fellowship.

For more than 30 years, Osterweil has worked in a range of printmaking processes including etching, relief, monoprint and silkscreen.

"As a printmaker, I am a participant in the dialogue between an internal vision and the external reality of the print," said Osterweil. "A print makes a commitment to a subject or an idea as the artist interacts with the progressive stages of the image. As in jazz, printmaking allows for repetition and variation."

The Visual Artist Series is collaboratively organized and hosted by faculty and students. Funded by the Student Association through the Campus Arts Council, the series brings seven to nine artists to campus every year. These artists give public lectures, workshops, demonstrations and critiques. Artists from all media are represented in the series. They come from all over the Unite States and Canada and, from time-to-time, other countries.
