Visual Artist Series Presents Valgerdur Hauksdottir March 6


PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Visual Artist Series at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh kicks off its spring schedule with Valgerdur Hauksdottir, an artist and printmaker born in Iceland. Her presentation will be held on Monday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center.

Hauksdottir received her bachelor's degree from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque in 1981 and a degree of Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1983.

Since 1984, Hauksdottir has worked as an artist and an academic. She has held solo exhibitions in Iceland and elsewhere abroad. Her work has been selected in numerous invitational and juried exhibitions in many European countries as well as China, India and Africa.

Hauksdottir's work is found both in private as well as public collections. Her academic involvement includes the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts, now titled the Visual Art Department of the Iceland Art Academy, founded in 1999. She has served as the chair of the printmaking department (1987-1994), vice principal (1994-1995) and founder/coordinator of the joint European Masters Program amongst five European institutions titled, Printmaking Art and Research (1995-2000).
