Visual Artist Series Presents Sculpture John Umphlett Nov. 18
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ John Umphlett, an artist from Shaftsbury, Vt., will be the next presenter in the Visual Artist Series at Plattsburgh State University of New York. Umphlett will discuss his work on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center.
Umphlett received his bachelor of fine arts degree from Virginia Commonwealth University
in 1997 and his M.F.A. from Bennington College in 1999. He uses a variety of mediums
in his sculptures including plastic, metal, rubber, velvet, hair and, in one piece,
a 1967 Ford F100.
Umphlett begain exhibiting his work in 1996, and his exhibitions have included the
GALA Art and Artists Celebration at Franconia Sculpture Park (Taylor Falls, Minn.),
and the North Bennington Outdoor Sculpture and Performance Exhibition. He has also
received several awards including the FSP/Jerome Fellowship and the Brawny Towel Man
Award.
The Visual Artist Series is sponsored by the Student Association through the Campus
Arts Council. The presentation is free and open to the public.
