Valcour Inn and Boathouse Site for Summer Chamber After Hours Gathering

SUNY Plattsburgh will co-sponsor the monthly North Country Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours Thursday, Aug. 18, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Valcour Inn and Boathouse, 3712 Route 9, Peru.

According to Tobi Hay, career counselor and employer relations specialist with the college’s Career Development Center, said partnering with the chamber, the Area Development Corp, and the employment staffing company, ETS, as co-sponsors works “because we all have a hand in workforce and economic development in the North Country.

“I attend the chamber’s monthly Business After Hours as often as I can in order to talk with local employers and let them know about the Career Development Center and CardinalConnect — which offers free job postings — and other ways to connect with students and alumni,” she said.

Hay said those who attend have opportunities to network with local business leaders, meet new people in the community, “and enjoy a great view on a summer afternoon.”

Attendees at the combined July and August summer version of After Hours will dine on free hors d’ouevres and can enter drawings to win door prizes. The Lake Champlain Research Institute, affiliated with the Center for Environmental Science, will give rides on its new research vessel, the R/V Gruendling from 4:30 to 5. Space is limited so call the chamber to reserve a space.

In addition, the chamber offers an introduction to After Hours beginning at 5 p.m.

“We’ll introduce you to our group and hit After Hours together,” said Alyssa Senecal, group marketing specialist with the chamber. “This is an easy way to take the ‘awkward’ out of After Hours and make networking fun.”

The cost for Business After Hours is $3 with advance reservations; $4 without. All attendees pay at the door. For more information or to register, call the chamber at 518-563-1000.
