Upward Bound 40th Anniversary Celebration April 15
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Upward Bound Program at the State University of New York College
at Plattsburgh will celebrate 40 years of continuous funding on Saturday, April 15,
from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center.
SUNY Plattsburgh submitted its first grant application for federal funding in the winter of 1965. Funding was received in the spring 1966 to provide a comprehensive academic and counseling support program to 125 high school students in schools throughout the North Country.
From the first residential experience in 1966 to the present, nearly 1,500 area high school students have successfully completed the program, more than 80 percent have pursued postsecondary education immediately after high school graduation and more than 50 percent of those have completed their postsecondary programs.
This celebration will recognize the program's accomplishments and honor the alumni, past and current staff, community members and school personnel who have provided service and support during the years.
Everyone is invited to attend the celebration, which is free and open to the public.
