Two Cardinal Hockey Players Earn SUNY Scholar Athlete Honors
Two SUNY Plattsburgh student athletes earned SUNY Scholar Athlete Awards for the 2015-2016 academic year.
Bridget Balisy of the Cardinal women’s hockey team and Spencer Finney of the Cardinal men’s hockey team received the award, which recognizes academic excellence coupled with exemplary athletic achievement.
“Recipients of this award are honored for high achievement in and out of the classroom, accomplishment marked by hard work, dedication and discipline,” said SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher.
“Congratulations to each of this year’s SUNY scholar athletes, and thank you to the many faculty, coaches and staff across SUNY who mentor and support them.”
Balisy, a senior forward from Ontario, Canada, has been selected three times to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and twice to the Commissioner's List.
Finney, a senior goaltender also from Ontario, Canada, was recently honored with the Dr. Richard D. Semmler Award, which is given to the male and female student athlete at SUNY Plattsburgh who have the highest cumulative grade point average. Finney is a two-time SUNYAC All-Academic and Commissioner's List honoree.
To be considered for a Scholar Athlete Award, student athletes must be nominated by their campus’s athletic director. To determine award recipients, nominees’ academic credentials and athletic accomplishments are reviewed by a panel of athletic directors from across the SUNY system and members of the SUNY Provost’s Office.
