'Tubby the Tuba' Among Works Performed by Symphonic Band in Children's Concert
The SUNY Plattsburgh Symphonic Band will perform a children’s concert Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
Directed by Daniel Gordon, professor and chair of the SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music, the program consists of “Tubby the Tuba,” with James Donnelly, graduating SUNY Plattsburgh senior, as tuba soloist and Timothy Palkovic, theater faculty emeritus, as narrator; Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf,” also featuring Palkovic as narrator; a series of short concertos featuring elementary and middle-school student soloists Jack Drinkall (euphonium), Lacy Wright (saxophone), Aili Teittinen-Gordon (oboe), and Harper Wolff (clairnett); and PDQ Bach’s “Grand Serenade for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion.
The 35-piece ensemble includes SUNY Plattsburgh students and community members. The concert is free and open to the public.
