Three Cardinals Named to Men's Hockey All-SUNYAC Team
Three members of the Plattsburgh State men’s hockey team have been named to the 2011-12 All-Conference Team, announced by the State University of New York Athletic Conference Tuesday. Defenseman Mike Grace and Goaltender Mathieu Cadieux earned first team honors while forward Kyle Kudroch was named to the third team.
A junior from Rochester, N.Y., Grace receives All-SUNYAC honors for the second straight season. The Cardinal blueliner has 11 assists – 10 of which have come in conference play. Grace, who has appeared in all 25 games thus far, has provided a veteran presence on a defense that has allowed just 48 goals. Plattsburgh has held its opponents to 1.92 goals per game which is second in the SUNYAC and fourth among Division III men’s teams.
Cadieux joins Grace on the first team after an impressive season between the Plattsburgh pipes. The Oshawa, Ontario native has made an immediate impact in his first season with the Cardinals. Cadieux finished the regular season with a 14-4-3 record and a .931 save percentage while his 1.80 goals against average ranks second in the SUNYAC and sixth in the country. Cadieux is one of only three sophomores to receive All-SUNYAC accolades and the first Plattsburgh goaltender to be recognized since the 2008-09 season.
Third team honors mark the first All-SUNYAC nod for Kudroch. The senior forward led the Plattsburgh offense throughout much of the year, finishing the regular season as the Cardinals’ leading scorer with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. Earlier this season, Kudroch was also named to the Cardinal Classic All-Tournament Team. The Cottam, Ontario native has appeared in 104 games and registered 79 career points.
The Cardinals will begin postseason play Saturday when they host a SUNYAC semifinal game at the Stafford Ice Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
