Theatre Department Presents Punch and Judy Show Nov. 29
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Theatre Department at the State University of New York College
at Plattsburgh presents a genuine Punch and Judy Show performed by Dr. Peter Smith
on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Hyman and Frances Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins
Hall.
Punch and Judy is a popular British glove-puppet show for children, featuring Mr. Punch and his wife Judy. The performance consists of a sequence of short scenes, each depicting an interaction between two characters, most typically Mr. Punch and one other character.
The show is traditionally performed by a single puppeteer, known as a Professor. Smith paid his way through college performing this show at numerous venues including parks and parties in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Punch is a wicked puppet who entertains with mischief, mayhem and murder. He wreaks havoc among family and law and order. He wears a jester's costume, is hunchbacked and his hooked nose almost meets his curved jutting chin. He carries a stick, as large as himself, which he freely uses upon all the other characters.
The show, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Student Association through the Campus Arts Council. For more information, contact the theatre department at 518-564-2180.
