The Tunnel of Oppression Returns to SUNY Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Sept. 10, 2010) – The Multicultural Alliance is giving students another chance to walk through “The Tunnel of Oppression" Sept. 23.This annual event is designed to give people a firsthand look at the oppression in our world and to provide an interactive chance to experience diversity.
Tour guides will move small groups though the Angell College Center meeting rooms from noon to 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Each room will feature activities about a form of oppression. The activities will last from 30 seconds to 3 minutes and will consist of skits, various multimedia presentations, and role-playing. The experience will end in a debriefing room where participants can talk about their experience.
“It’s an opportunity for students from all and any backgrounds to experience the various forms of oppression in society,” said Mike White, program coordinator of organization development. “Because of the intensity and realistic nature of the event, it’s an experience that one will not forget.”
Because of the intensity of the event, this experience may be difficult for some.
