The Study of Culture Topic of UVM Sociologist Talk
The Delta Xi chapter of the Lambda Pi Eta communications honor society will host “The Culture in Technology, or Why, Really, Do We Love Steve Jobs?” Oct. 23 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.
Dr. Tom Streeter, chair of the University of Vermont Department of Sociology, will lead an in-depth discussion about Steve Jobs and the way we think of innovation in the modern world.
Through the study of culture, Streeter finds that much of how humans view the world today is shaped by some frame of reference that we have often unconsciously inherited from the past. The recent attention from stories told about Jobs’s life and career mimic examples of the 19th century romantic rebel hero, signifying that the way we think of novelty is old.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Dr. Kirsten Isgro, associate professor in communication studies and adviser to the Delta Xi chapter, at 518-564-2411 or email [email protected].
