Tenor Rockwell Blake Leads SUNY Plattsburgh Voice Masterclass
The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music will host public international voice masterclasses beginning Saturday, Aug. 9 in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
The program, which runs through Sunday, Aug. 17, includes daily masterclass sessions and a concert Saturday, Aug. 16.
Rockwell Blake, an internationally acclaimed tenor originally from Peru, N.Y., will lead the program, providing advanced singers and aspiring young professionals the opportunity to work with him on vocal technique, style and skills of the classical singing actor in an extended and concentrated environment. The program will offer a distinctly focused immersion approach to singers of opera.
SUNY Plattsburgh music faculty member Dr. Karen Becker will accompany singers at all sessions and the culminating concert.
Classes, which are open to the public, will be held 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. Aug. 9-15 and again on Aug. 17 and cost $20 per day. The public is also welcome to audit the sessions.
Saturday’s concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall, and is free and open to the public.
