SUNYAC Names Carl Munnerlyn Men's Basketball Player of the Week
FREDONIA, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2010) -- SUNY Plattsburgh guard Carl Munnerlyn (Brooklyn/Canarsie) has been chosen the State University of New York Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, for the period ending Sunday. Munnerlyn averaged a team-best 18.0 points while shooting 42.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc to help Plattsburgh go 3-0 during the week. This is the first time that the senior out of Brooklyn (Canarsie High School) has received SUNYAC weekly honors.
A second-year transfer from Fulton-Montgomery Community College, Munnerlyn tied his career high with 23 points to lead all scorers against New Paltz, with the Cardinals beginning their SUNYAC title defense with an 87-73 victory on Friday. Then in a rematch of last season's conference championship game the following afternoon, he scored 17 points, grabbed four rebounds and dished three assists versus Oneonta, a 69-60 win. He also had 14 points in a 62-58 non-conference win over Saint Lawrence earlier in the week.
Munnerlyn is the second Plattsburgh player this season to be named SUNYAC player of the week ; Errol Daniyan was the recipient on Nov. 22.
