SUNYAC Academic Awards: Cardinals Best General Campus Population Again


PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (July 23, 2010) -- SUNY Plattsburgh Academic Coordinator for Athletics Michelle St. Onge has announced that 66 Cardinal student-athletes from the winter and spring sports have been named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference Academic Team.In addition, she noted that for the 12th straight semester, Plattsburgh Athletics attained a higher grade-point average than the campus' general student population, 2.94 to 2.83. More than half of 309 Cardinal student-athletes achieved a 3.0 or better GPA, including 18 with at least a 3.7 and four with a perfect 4.0 this spring. Seven of eight women's teams were above a 3.0, including soccer for a department-best 3.34, for a 3.17 aggregate. Seven men's programs combined for a 2.74.

The qualifications needed to be on the All-SUNYAC Academic List are the individual must be a varsity athlete; have completed the entire season; and obtained a minimum 3.3 GPA for the semester in which they competed. To be placed on the Commissioner's List, the student-athlete must adhere to the first two criteria plus maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 based on three semesters at the institution. (Does not have to be consecutive semesters.)

On the men's side, it's Ryan Corry, Hockey, 4.00; Danny Byrnes, Soccer, 4.00; Alex Read, Baseball, 3.93; Ryan Poirier, Basketball, 3.87, and Casey Mohrien, Baseball, 3.86.
