SUNY Waives Application Fees Through Nov. 3

fee free app weeks

The State University of New York has launched its Free Apps Weeks program again, giving high school students the opportunity to apply for up to five SUNY schools for free, now through Nov. 3.

Students can use the ApplySUNY application or the Common App to apply, with the free apps program saving them up to $250. No special code is needed, but applications must be made during the fee-free period. SUNY also offers ongoing fee waivers that can apply to those students in foster care, with military connections, and students from low-income backgrounds, among other qualifiers.

"I am so excited about SUNY Free Application Weeks," said Karen McGrath, SUNY Plattsburgh vice president for enrollment and student success. "Removing financial barriers for students across our region to apply to college is a true commitment to their personal success.

"At SUNY Plattsburgh, we know how important it is for North Country and Champlain Valley students to have options and opportunities about where they may want to attend college. Being able to apply to us with no application fee provides greater choice and allows us to further explore with them our many options for scholarships, grants and self-help financial programs," she said.

Dr. Marcus Tye, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, agreed.

"I believe education is a human right, and access to education is vital to a thriving economy," Tye said. "Even if you can afford the cost of the most expensive colleges or universities, SUNY Plattsburgh offers excellence at an exceptional value, and the SUNY innovation of free applications is one more way we are an all-around smart choice."

Those applying to Educational Opportunity Programs can have fees waived at up to seven schools. For information on qualifying outside Free App Weeks, visit www.suny.edu/feewaiver.
