SUNY Plattsburgh to Host 2022 Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship in Lake Placid


SUNY Plattsburgh has been selected by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to host the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship March 25-26, 2022 at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Lake Placid has served as host to the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Championship six times. SUNY Plattsburgh is also hosting the 2018 men's championship at Herb Brooks Arena next March. The college has also hosted the tournament three times at Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena on campus. 

"This is certainly great news and a true testament from the NCAA as to the confidence they have in our department and SUNY Plattsburgh to continue to provide a true championship experience for the student-athletes," said Director of Athletics Mike Howard. "We are excited to once again be working in collaboration with the Olympic Regional Development Authority. They run exceptional events at all levels, and Lake Placid certainly provides a world-class venue."

NCAA criteria for selecting host sites includes creating what will be an exceptional experience for the student-athletes, along with adherence to bid specifications. Specifications can include providing optimal facilities; ease of travel to the location and ample lodging; and adherence to NCAA principles, which include providing an atmosphere that is safe and respects the dignity of all attendees.

SUNY Plattsburgh sponsors 17 intercollegiate teams that compete against SUNY colleges and others at the Division III level. An 18th team, women's lacrosse, will start competition in 2018-2019. Learn more at gocardinalsports.com
