SUNY Plattsburgh to Celebrate Global Entrepreneurship Week
SUNY Plattsburgh’s Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship has announced a slate of events for Global Entrepreneurship Week, Nov. 18-22.
The events have been planned by the ENACTUS Club and its faculty adviser, Dr. Laurent Josien. Attendance is free and open to the public.
Event No. 1: Entrepreneur Movie and “Know Your Entrepreneur” Game:
Tuesday, Nov. 19, 5:30- 6:30 p.m. — Amnesty Room in Angell College Center
Screening of portions of the movie "Tucker: A Man and his Dream" and "Know Your Entrepreneur" game. After watching a few segments, students will be led in developing a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats — or SWOT — analysis of the entrepreneurial abilities of Tucker. Then, they will be put in groups and develop the same framework for other entrepreneurs.
Event No. 2: Business Plan Poster Competition
Thursday, Nov. 21, 5-6:45 p.m. — Mowry Conference Room in Redcay Hall
Students will compete for cash prizes by presenting their ideas for new business ventures on poster boards and pitching their ideas to a panel of judges, composed of local entrepreneurs, business people and faculty members. Harold Hance, managing member of Mountain Valley Integrated Solutions LLC, is the head judge and main sponsor of the event. Cash prizes will be given to the best three business idea pitches ($300 for first place). Refreshments will be served.
Event No. 3: Skype Chat with Kisstixx CEO
Friday, Nov. 22, 2-3:15 pm — Room #116 in Ausable Hall (New School of Business and Computer Science Building)
Dallas Robinson, a former student of Josien at Utah Valley University, created his own company as a class project (http://kisstixx.com/). After a lot of hard work, he and his business partner were featured on the TV show, "Shark Tank," where entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to a group of investors. They were successful, and they now have Marc Cuban as an investor in their business. He will be discussing his experience through a Q-and-A Skype chat with the members of the audience.
