SUNY Plattsburgh Music Student, Jason Levesque, to Give Senior Voice Recital

The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music will present Jason Levesque, baritone, in his senior voice recital Sunday, April 13, at 4 p.m., in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

Associate Professor of Music Dr. Karen Becker will accompany him in a program that opens with the Italian aria “Bella siccome un angelo” from the opera “Don Pasquale.”

Next will be a set of four German lieder: “Klage” by Carl Maria von Weber, “Wie Melodien zieht es mir” by Johannes Brahms, “Der Tod und das Mädchen” by Franz Schubert and “Zueignung” by Richard Strauss. The first half will conclude with the French song cycle “Le Bestiaire” by Francis Poulenc.

The second half of the program will start with a solo from Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem,” followed by a set of contemporary English art songs: “Memories” by Charles Ives, “Silent Noon” by R. Vaughn Williams, and “June” by Roger Quilter. It will end with two musical theater songs: “The Impossible Dream” from “Man of La Mancha” and “I Am What I Am” from “La Cage Aux Folles.”

Levesque, a voice student of Timothy Morningstar, adjunct lecturer in music, will receive a Bachelor of Arts in Music this May.

In his time with SUNY Plattsburgh’s music department, Levesque has appeared with the Champlain Valley Voices/SUNY Plattsburgh Choral Union and the Cardinal Singers. He sang the role of King Melchior in the Champlain Valley Voices production of “Amahl and The Night Visitors” and most recently appeared with the Champlain Valley Voices as the baritone soloist in Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “Dona Nobis Pacem.” In the spring of 2013, Levesque appeared in Lyric Scenes: A Musical Revue, singing “Let Things Be Like They Always Was” from “Street Scene” by Kurt Weill.
