SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts Valentine Concert

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (Feb. 2, 2009) - The SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music announces a Valentine Concert on Friday, Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms of the Angell College Center. Cardinal Singers, SUNY Plattsburgh's select chamber choir, will present a special program of musical numbers and skits under the direction of Jo Ellen Miano. Tickets are available at the Angell College Center desk. Prices are $2 for SUNY Plattsburgh students and $5 general admission.

Blending music and humor in a casual cafe setting, the choir will be assisted by the SUNY Plattsburgh Mambo Combo directed by Rick Davies. Sitting in groups at small tables, the audience can lean back and enjoy a varied and fun program. Light snacks will be served, and non-alcoholic beverages may be purchased at a cash bar.

Members of Cardinal Singers will perform popular tunes on the theme of love, recorded by numerous artists over the years, including a vocal jazz arrangement of Lennon and McCartney's "When I'm 64" and Gershwin's "They Can't Take that Away from Me." The women will be featured on Ellington's "I Got It Bad" while the men will charm the audience with "Softly as I Leave You." Mambo Combo will add its own level of spice to several of the vocal numbers, as well as offering up some select favorites.
