SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts Career Night April 7

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ This year will mark the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh's 29th annual Career Night. This event, which is hosted by the College's Career Development Center (CDC), will be held on Thursday, April 7, 4:30 - 9 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center.

According to Sally E. Urban, senior career counselor at CDC, Career Night is one of the most important events sponsored by the center.

"Students can walk away with a better sense of career options," said Urban. "Typically, the businesses and organizations that participate in Career Night come to recruit and promote their companies and fill immediate openings."

Representatives from approximately 50-60 businesses, organizations and governmental agencies, including the FBI, will be available to discuss employment opportunities.

Urban said that Career Night is beneficial for all students at SUNY Plattsburgh.

"It is not just for graduating seniors," said Urban. "It is a terrific networking opportunity and helps students brush up on the kinds of skills they need to establish career. It would also be beneficial for students who are looking for summer employment to attend Career Night."

In preparation for the event, the CDC is sponsoring two workshops, titled "Preparing For a Career Fair," to help students to make a good impression on Career Night. These workshops will be held on Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, April 5 at 10 a.m.

In addition to Career Night, the CDC offers many services on campus. The Center offers career counseling which allows students to meet with a counselor to discuss a variety of topics including conducting a job search, creating resumes and cover letters and acquiring internships.

The CDC also offers student employment services as well as credential files and various resources to help students with their career development.
