SUNY Plattsburgh Hosts Annual World Week Celebration


PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The State University of New York College at Plattsburgh will hold its annual World Week celebration from Monday, Feb. 28 to Friday, March 4 under the theme, "The End Of The World As We Know It."

The celebration will provide an opportunity for the campus and the Plattsburgh community to celebrate the diverse cultures at SUNY Plattsburgh.

The week's activities include a discussion titled, "Ethnicities Around the World —The Other Struggle" hosted by the Organization of Women of Ethnicity (OWE) on Tuesday, March 1 at 8 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

On Thursday, March 3, the Afro-Brazilian Capoeira group will host a workshop for campus and community members at the Memorial Hall Gym from 6 to 8 p.m. Copoeira is a form of martial arts that incorporates acrobatic and dance movements as well as music. Tickets, available at the door, are $10 for general admission and free for SUNY Plattsburgh students. The workshop will be followed by a presentation in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center by the New Edge Theater Cabaret that will take the audience on a journey through the life and times of various ethnicities.

The World Week celebration culminates on Friday, March 4 with "Cafe International," which will showcase aspects of the various cultures at Plattsburgh State.  This event is free and open to the public. SUNY Plattsburgh President John Ettling will be a participant in the show, which will begin at 8 p.m. in the Warren Ballrooms, Angell College Center. Following "Cafe International," there will be an "End of the World Party," featuring live disk jockeys from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center. Tickets are $3 for general admission and $2 for SUNY Plattsburgh students with proper ID. 

Sodexho Campus Services will serve a variety of ethnic entrees and desserts from around the world during the week in the Clinton and Algonquin dining halls.
