SUNY Plattsburgh Department of Music Presents Winter Jazz Concert
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (NOV. 3, 2008) - The SUNY Plattsburgh music department will present their annual Winter Jazz Concert on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall, on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus.
The concert will feature guest artist, John McKenna. The SUNY Plattsburgh Mambo Combo,
under the direction of Dr. Rick Davies, will perform original tunes composed by band
members Peter Fiore and Eric Reeves, as well as by Davies. Herm Matlock will direct
the SUNY Plattsburgh Jazz Ensemble in their performance of contemporary and traditional
jazz standards. Performing with both groups will be tenor saxophonist John McKenna.
McKenna lived and played professionally in New York City from 1989-2004. During that time he played, recorded and toured in bands lead by many great musicians including Joe Lovano, Larry Goldings, Ron Horton and Dawn Thomson. Performances included gigs with the Village Vanguard Orchestra, MOMA Jazz Series and jazz festivals in the U.S. and Europe. Several years ago, McKenna and his family moved out of the city and to live in Barrington, R.I. McKenna continues to tour and play gigs around New England. In March 2008, he toured in Europe with the Michael Arnowitt Quartet.
