SUNY Plattsburgh Alumni Justices to Preside At Naturalization Ceremony

SUNY Plattsburgh will welcome nearly two dozen new U.S. citizens who will be sworn in at a naturalization ceremony Friday, March 28 at 11 a.m. in the Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.
The Hon. Glenn Suddaby, a member of the Class of 1980 and U.S. district judge of the Northern District of New York, along with fellow alumnus and justice, the Hon. Gary Favreau ’73, U.S. magistrate judge, Northern District of New York, will preside over the swearing-in ceremony.
Absent will be newly retired U.S. Magistrate Judge Christian Hummel ’74. The three classmates have presided over naturalization ceremonies at their alma mater in one way or another for several years.
University President Alexander Enyedi will welcome the alums and those gathered to take the pledge as well as their family members and mentors who have supported the candidates through their journey to Friday’s ceremony. The a cappella group from Plattsburgh High School will perform as part of the ceremony.
Suddaby and Favreau will give remarks, after which the candidates will be presented as candidates for citizenship. Favreau’s courtroom deputy, Dawn Shaheen, will administer the oath of citizenship and lead those present in the Pledge of Allegiance. The citizens will then be given their certificates.
Following the program, the justices will feted at an Alumni in the Classroom luncheon hosted by the political science department where the they’ll meet with and field questions from invited students.
