Summer Safari Serves Up Fun For All Ages

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Summer Safari, which has been combining learning and hands-on fun for kids for the past 19 years at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, has a great slate of summer enrichment programs for children of all ages.

The Summer Safari schedule includes a host of exciting classes, including:

  • Fairy Tale Summer Theater
  • Forensics: To Catch a Thief
  • Those Amazing Caves
  • Backyard Astronomers Club
  • Camp Med
  • Watercolor Painting
  • Creating Your Own Comic Book
  • Medieval Art
  • Marionette Mania
Kate Chilton, conference director for College Auxiliary Services, said that Summer Safari quells the potential boredom of a long summer, stirs up new ideas, and lets kids and parents experience the joy of creativity.

"Summer Safari is such a great program because kids get to delve into something of particular interest to them or something that is brand new and exciting," said Chilton. "Classes are small; teachers have a special interest in the subject and in sharing their knowledge with young people. Kids get a terrific sense of accomplishment and well being."

Also on tap this summer at Plattsburgh State is the Lake Champlain Sea Kayak Institute. The Institute includes a four-day sea kayaking course Monday-Thursday, July 26 - July 29, both for non-college credit and college credit. Sea kayak clinics will be held on Sunday, July 25. Demo Day, on Friday, July 30 from noon to 4 p.m., will feature sales representatives from national sea kayak companies and local retailers who invite you to come out and try the latest kayaks and kayaking equipment.
