Student Art-ivists Make Case for Diversity on Campus
Student Art-ivists will host “Photovoice Gala: A Storytelling Event,” Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m. in the Winkel Sculpture Court, Myers Fine Arts Building.
Part photo gallery, part film festival, part storytelling event, this student initiative shares the narratives of the importance of diversity and inclusion on campus. According to Thrmiga Sathiyamoorthy, Killam Fellow sponsored by Fulbright Canada at SUNY Plattsburgh, student participants will have the opportunity to share creative pieces to promote the people and space they learn and live in. It also serves to empower students to showcase how they see the university from their own experiences.
Students will be on hand to share their stories with the public and answer questions to further open the dialogue.
“Given the profound success of this year’s inaugural diversity week initiatives at Plattsburgh, a student0organized event to recognize and celebrate student involvement in promoting diversity on campus is an important and a necessary part of the conversation as well,” Sathiyamoorthy said.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Sathiyamoorthy at 647-648-9095 or [email protected].
