State, Local Candidates Address Issues at Forums on Campus


SUNY Plattsburgh is hosting forums in October for races in the 115th Assembly District, Clinton County Area 4 legislative district, and for mayor and council seats for the City of Plattsburgh.

115th Assembly District 

The League of Women Voters of the North Country, and the Honors Program and the Center for Public Service at SUNY Plattsburgh will sponsor a candidate forum for the 115th Assembly District Thursday, Oct. 20 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Krinovitz Recital Hall, Hawkins Hall.

Democrat Billy Jones and Republican Kevin Mulverhill will discuss issues and answer questions pertaining to the 115th Assembly District, which covers most of northern New York from Massena to Lake Champlain, the Canadian border to Tupper Lake.

Legislative Area 4, City Wards 1 and 4

The same sponsors will welcome candidates for Clinton County Legislative Area 4, and City of Plattsburgh Wards 1 and 4 Monday, Oct. 24 from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. in Krinovitz.

Democrat Simon Conroy, who won the Democratic primary in September against challenger George Dyer, and Republican Devi Momot will discuss issues pertaining to Legislative Area 4, which encompasses most of the Town of Plattsburgh and parts of Beekmantown.

Candidates for Ward 1 — Democrat Rachelle Armstrong and Republican Craig Worley — and Ward 4 — Democrat Damian Battinelli and Republican Peter Ensel — will address issues facing their wards in the City of Plattsburgh.

Mayoral Candidates

The community action group, Vision2Action, and the Office of the President at SUNY Plattsburgh will sponsor the third and final candidate forum where Democratic mayoral candidate Colin Read squares off against Republican candidate and incumbent Mayor James Calnon Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 7 to 9 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall.
