Social Events and Friendly Competition Top Homecoming 2013 Schedule of Events

SUNY Plattsburgh is welcoming back alumni, family and friends for a weekend of athletics and social events during Homecoming 2013, Oct. 18-20.

One of this year’s most anticipated events is the Tug of War over Hawkins Pond, in which teams will compete to claim the Homecoming Cup, said Joanne Nelson, director of alumni relations.

Pictures dating back to the early days of the college show students taking part in the tradition, so it seemed natural to make it a part of the Homecoming festivities, Nelson said.

“Last year’s Tug of War was so successful, this is a competition that we’ll keep on the program for years to come,” Nelson said.

The Tent Party at the Field House is a prelude to the many athletic events lined up for Saturday afternoon, including men’s soccer versus SUNY Fredonia at 1 p.m. and men’s lacrosse against McGill at 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Student Association will celebrate its 50th year of service at a gathering in the Algonquin Dining Hall. And an open house in the School of Business and Economics and computer science building will honor this year’s Off to a Good Start and Faculty Staff Impact award recipients, while showing off the new building.

Other events include the Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, the Welcome Back Social at the Monopole, a Cardinal at the Arts exhibit at the Burke Gallery and a tribute to the late professor Al Montanaro.

All alumni and friends are welcome to attend.
