Six Cardinal Runners Earn All-SUNYAC Cross Country Honors

The State University of New York Athletic Conference named six members of the cross country team to the 2011 Cross Country All-Conference Teams announced Tuesday. Ryan Millar and Justin Harrington grabbed All-SUNYAC honors on the men’s side. Stefanie Braun was the lone Cardinal representative on the women’s first team while Julia Warren, Brittany Trahan and Kelly Driscoll each earned a spot on the second team.

In order to be a member on the all-conference team, a student-athlete must have finished in the top 15 at the SUNYAC Championships. The top seven finishers earn a place on the first team while runners who finished 8th-15th earn a spot on the second team.

Millar garnered first team all-conference honors after finishing sixth with a time of 26:15 in the men’s 8K at the SUNYAC championships this past weekend. The junior improved on his mark from last year when he was a member of the All-SUNYAC Second Team.

Harrington took home second team all-conference accolades after finishing eighth in the men’s 8K at the SUNYAC championships with a time of 26:32. This year marks the first time the Chester, N.Y. native has received all-conference honors.

Braun, who is also the reigning SUNYAC Runner of the Week, claimed her first individual crown at the SUNYAC Championships last weekend. The senior standout finished the 6k course ten seconds ahead of the rest of the pack, crossing the finish line in 22:39. This is the second time Braun has received first team honors and third time she has been an All-SUNYAC runner.

Warren came in 10th with a time of 23:23 to secure a place on the second team for the first time in her career. Trahan and Driscoll finished 11th and 12th, respectively, at the SUNYAC Championships to also earn their place on the All-Conference Second Team for the second straight season.

The Cardinals return to action on Nov. 12 at the NCAA Atlantic Regional hosted by St. Lawrence University.
