Singers Hit High Notes for Choral Fest 2007

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Celebrating the delights of both a cappella and accompanied choral singing, the Music Department at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh will host Choral Fest 2007 on Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24.

Choral Fest 2007 features a series of performances by two choral ensembles and a cappella group as well as high school vocal clinics.

The Cardinal Singers and College Choral, directed by music professor Jo Ellen Miano, and Minor Adjustments, a student-directed a cappella group, will perform on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. in the E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium in Hawkins Hall. The choirs will perform two works as a combined chorus - the uplifting choral piece "Stomp Your Foot" by Aaron Copland featuring a four-hand piano accompaniment and "What a Wonderful World." Each ensemble will also perform separate pieces, demonstrating a wide spectrum of choral styles, ranging from 16th-century English madrigal to contemporary jazz arrangements. Songs include "In the Mood," "Come go with me" and "Ching-A-Ring." Tickets are $8 for general admission, $5 for faculty, staff, seniors and non-SUNY Plattsburgh students and $2 for SUNY Plattsburgh students.

Choral Fest continues on Saturday, March 24, when Minor Adjustments hosts its Invitational Concert featuring guest a cappella groups singing contemporary pop music arranged specifically for a cappella performances. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Hartman Theatre, Myers Fine Arts Building. Tickets, which are available starting March 12 at the Angell College Center Information Desk, are $5 for general admission and $2 for SUNY Plattsburgh Students.
