Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble Presents Spring Concert
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (April 22, 2008) - The SUNY Plattsburgh department of music presents the Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble, Elizabeth Gorevic, director, in a concert of classical music for string orchestra on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend. For further information, please call the Performing Arts Information Line at 518-564-2283.
The program will include a baroque sinfonia by Guiseppe Tartini, an early string symphony by Felix Mendelssohn, the lyrical "Serenade for Strings" by Edward Elgar and "Playful Pizzicato" from Benjamin Britten's "Simple Symphony." The Sinfonia Chamber Ensemble includes college students and advanced players from the community. The ensemble studies and performs major works from the string orchestra repertoire. They perform regularly at the college and in the surrounding community.
On Thursday, May 1 at 6:30 p.m., the group is performing as part of the Dinner with a View concert series at the Lake Forest Senior Retirement Community in Plattsburgh. Tickets are $15 for the combined dinner and concert and $8 for those wishing to only attend the concert. Tickets must be purchased in advance. Please call 518-561-6431 for information.
