Sculptor and Performance Artist to Visit SUNY Plattsburgh
PLATTSBURGH, NY (October 24, 2007) - Claire Sherwood, sculptor and performance artist, will give a presentation as part of SUNY Plattsburgh's Visual Artist Series on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m., in room 202 of Yokum Hall.
Sherwood received her MFA from the University of Maryland in 2003 and is currently an assistant professor and Foundations Program coordinator at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Her work has been exhibited in venues such as the Smithsonian National Botanic Garden, the Corcoran Museum of Art, the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, and Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ.
Sherwood has won numerous grants and awards for her endeavors including a Community Residence at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts where she worked with the Baylor Women's Correctional Institution creating a group installation/video with 15 female inmates addressing issues of women's domestic spaces and non-traditional roles of women.
The presentation is sponsored by the Campus Arts Council and the Student Association. It is free and open to the public.
