Rummage Sale Planned May 16 for Items Left Behind by SUNY Plattsburgh Residents

The Center for Student Involvement, Housing and Residence Life, and College Auxiliary Services are co-sponsoring the sixth Residence Hall Rummage Sale Tuesday, May 16 beginning at 11 a.m. for faculty and staff only in the Macdonough basement lounge.

The sale will not open to the public until 1 p.m.; prior to 1 p.m. only shoppers with SUNY Plattsburgh ID will be allowed in. The sale ends at 5 p.m.

Every year, students leave behind useable clothing, appliances, books, school supplies, and other household items. Six years ago, staff from the Center for Student Involvement and Residence Life collected all the useable items for its first sale, the proceeds of which have benefited the Interfaith Food Shelf. According to Cori Jackson, center director, more than $6,000 has been donated to the food shelf, with an indeterminate amount of non-perishable food left behind by students that has also been donated over the years.

Employees whose lunch time falls during sale hours have been granted a half-hour release. Employees are to notify their immediate supervisors if they plan on using release time to attend the event.

Entrance to the sale is through the back of Macdonough closest to the tennis courts. Admittance will not be through any other doors of the building.
