Ruiz Named to DIII News Preseason All-America Basketball Team
BEAVERTON, Ore. (Oct. 27, 2010) -- SUNY Plattsburgh's men's basketball player Chris Ruiz has been named to the DIII News Preseason All-America Team, according to the publication's 2010-11 preview issue. Ruiz, a senior guard out of Washington Heights, N.Y. (St. Agnes High School), is the only representative from the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
The 6-foot-4 Ruiz last season led SUNYAC in scoring with a 17.2 average, ranked third in 3-pointers (62), ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.403) and 10th in free throw percentage (.700) en route to all-conference first team honors for a second straight year. He also was selected honorable mention All-America by DIII News, while earning consensus all-region from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (1st team), Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Upstate (2nd team) and D3hoops.com (2nd team).
Ruiz is one of four starters among 11 returning players for a Cardinals squad that is coming off a 21-8 season, sweeps of SUNYAC regular-season and tournament titles and their fourth NCAA Division III Championship appearance in the last five years. As a result, Plattsburgh is ranked No. 21 in the monthly newsletter's NCAA Division III preseason poll.
