Rugar Street Traffic Limited to One-Way Traffic
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ As new and returning students move into their residence hall rooms
at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh on Saturday, August 27,
motorists will be able to travel Rugar Street only in a westerly direction for much
of the day.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, vehicular traffic between Memorial Hall and Sanborn Avenue will be one-way only toward the Plattsburgh Senior High School. Also vehicular traffic on Sanborn Avenue Extension directly behind the College will be one-way only from Rugar Street to Park Street.
The one-way traffic pattern, which was approved by the Plattsburgh City Council and City Police, will be instituted in an effort to alleviate some of the traffic along the roadway and to protect students and their families as they move their clothes, furnishings and belongings into their residence hall rooms.
Motorists traveling in an easterly direction along Rugar Street (toward Lake Champlain) will find the street closed at the intersection with Sanborn Avenue. They will be diverted along Sanborn to Park Street, Draper Avenue and then onto Broad Street.
Rugar Street may be congested at times on Saturday, and motorists are advised to seek alternate routes around Plattsburgh State that day. Classes officially begin at SUNY Plattsburgh on Monday, Aug. 29.
