Ricochet Duo, Daniel Gordon to Perform

SUNY Plattsburgh’s Department of Music will present a concert by the Ricochet Duo with Daniel Gordon Tuesday, March 27, at 7:30 p.m. in E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Ricochet Duo is dedicated to celebrating the music of the 21st century. The concert program will feature the music of living composers including David Maslanka, Eric Ewazen, Evan Chambers, Marc Mellits and New Zealander Gareth Farr.

Pianist Rose Chancler first teamed up with marimba player Jane Boxall in 2008 after Chancler placed an ad on Craigslist, "seeking classical musicians for collaboration." Their debut was on Chancler’s “Piano by Nature” concert series in Elizabethtown, N.Y. Since then they have been actively performing throughout the United States, most recently at Augsburg College in Minneapolis and at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, N.Y.

For this concert, the duo will be collaborating with saxophonist Gordon, an associate professor in the music department.

“We are looking forward to presenting works written for the highly unusual combination of saxophone, marimba and piano. Dan adds exciting color and panache to our duo,” said Chancler. “If you enjoy new music with rhythmic pizzazz and unique instrumentation, then this concert is for you.”

Ricochet Duo has crafted multiple programs over the course of their collaboration, ranging from a program of music by women composers to a broad-ranging selection of ragtime and tango music. The duo is currently working on recording a full album of dance music.
