SUNY Plattsburgh Director of Housing and Residence Life Steve Matthews will be inducted into the American Football Association Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame June 21-22 in Canton, Ohio.

Matthews will be the lone official inducted into the officials’ category this year.

Matthews becomes just the 33rd official to be inducted into the AFA Semi-Pro Football Hall of Fame. He began officiating high school football in 1997, which helped him land a position officiating semi-pro football in 2000. At the high school level, Matthews has officiated two Eastern New York state semifinal games in addition to three state championships at Syracuse University's Carrier Dome.

In his 18 years of officiating semi-pro football, he has worked games within the Empire Football League, the New England Football League, and the North American Football League.

A staunch supporter of Cardinal athletics, Matthews has served as the official scorekeeper when
Plattsburgh has hosted the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament semifinal and final rounds at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, N.Y.
