Radio Station Sponsoring Food Drive
PWQKE The Quake, the student-run radio station at SUNY Plattsburgh, is collecting canned goods to benefit the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf Saturday, Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Amite Plaza, Angell College Center.
The Starve-athon Can Drive will feature variety of games such as Pie-a-DJ, where students can make a donation to pie a DJ of their choice, and musical entertainment.
The Starve-athon started over a decade ago and is The Quake’s largest event for the academic year. According to Natalie Gramegna, station general manager, the event’s purpose is to give back to the community by raising funds and collecting non-perishable-items to benefit the food shelf.
The Quake will also hold a Battle of Cans contest, where clubs, fraternities, sororities, organizations and athletic teams will compete to see which donates the most cans to win a trophy and gift cards. Gramegna said organizers hope to collect 939 cans or more, which coincides with the radio station’s location on the FM dial, 93.9.
