Poet Major Jackson to Hold Reading Feb. 9
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Poet Major Jackson will read from his poetry on Wednesday, Feb.
9, at 7 p.m. in Champlain Valley Hall Commons (first floor lounge) at the State University
of New York College at Plattsburgh.
Jackson, nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award for his book, Leaving Saturn , won the Whiting Award in 2003. Jackson's poetry reads loud and clear with vivid imagery and a personal voice that is strong and convincing.
His poems have appeared in the American Poetry Review , Boulevard , Callaloo and The New Yorker , among other publications. His next book, Hoops , is due out this year from Norton.
Jackson, an assistant professor of English at the University of Vermont, is a native of North Philadelphia. He has earned degrees from Temple University and University of Oregon. His books will be available for purchase at the reading, which is sponsored by the Winkel Humanities Fund and the English Department.
