Plattsburgh College Foundation Readies for Annual ‘Giving Tuesday’ Event
SUNY Plattsburgh has launched its annual #PlattsGive campaign in honor of Giving Tuesday in an effort to secure critical funding for educational resources.
This year’s campaign invites Cardinal alumni, friends, parents, faculty and staff to join in the global day of giving Tuesday, Dec. 3 by giving “Gifts with Heart” in support of student success.
Held annually on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, this global day of giving is aimed at unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world through generosity.
Many of the learning opportunities that SUNY Plattsburgh students depend on throughout the academic year are fueled by gifts made to the Plattsburgh College Foundation each Giving Tuesday.
Unrestricted Funding
Contributions to the Plattsburgh Fund are particularly valuable, as they provide unrestricted funding to address the university’s greatest needs, including direct support for student scholarships, according to Anne Hansen, vice president of institutional advancement and executive director of the foundation.
“A gift to the Plattsburgh Fund during Giving Tuesday is truly a gift with heart because it is a gift to the very heart of SUNY Plattsburgh — our students — and a gift to the very heart of the Plattsburgh College Foundation — providing more student scholarships,” Hansen said. “Gifts make the educational experience more affordable and accessible to all students. Making a gift that directly helps a student to fund their education is definitely heartfelt support and deeply appreciated.”
For many students, pursuing higher education wouldn’t be possible without the tuition assistance that scholarships provide.
“It is all because of the charitable acts of good Samaritans in our communities that some students can receive the financial assistance they need to progress their education,” said Connor Ouimette, a SUNY Plattsburgh accounting major and scholarship recipient. “Plenty of us grow up worried about the future because of the constant threat of debt that can hang over our heads, but it is thanks to the kindness of the various people who contribute to scholarships that some of us can breathe a sigh of relief. I am truly grateful for the kindness that they have shown me and other students.”
‘Affirmed my Choice’
For Zoey Bushey, who is majoring in early childhood education, receiving a scholarship made attending SUNY Plattsburgh that much more appealing and has allowed her to make the most of her time on campus.
“The scholarship not only provided crucial financial support but also affirmed my choice to pursue my education at a school that aligns with my values and goals,” she said. “Knowing that I would be part of a community that believes in supporting students made me feel more confident in my decision. It allowed me to focus on my studies and take full advantage of the opportunities available at Plattsburgh, reinforcing my commitment to my academic and personal growth.”
This year, SUNY Plattsburgh hopes to inspire 150 people to #PlattsGive by day’s end on Tuesday, Dec. 3. Gifts may be made to the Plattsburgh Fund or to any other SUNY Plattsburgh program, department or initiative. Every contribution, regardless of its size or designation, counts toward this participation goal and supports Cardinal students on their educational journeys.
