Pat Shaughnessy Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team

Pat Shaughnessy of the men’s soccer team has been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Shaughnessy, who has a 3.55 grade-point average in Childhood Education, received First Team honors in District Three – a district which includes all NCAA Division III institutions in New York. With his selection, he is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration and will be placed on the national ballot with award-winners to be announced on Nov. 29.

Shaughnessy was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team over the weekend. Leading the Cardinal offense all season, he posted a career-high 14 goals and 33 points, including two goals in Plattsburgh’s two postseason games. Shaughnessy netted seven game-winners and registered at least one point in 12 of the Cardinals’ 20 games.

The senior forward from Plattsburgh was one of two State University of New York Athletic Conference players to be named Academic All-District. Geneseo’s Ian Mort also received First Team District Three honors.

The Capital One Academic All-America program recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Student-athletes, who must have at least a 3.3 grade-point average and be a starter or important reserve to be eligible for the prestigious award, are nominated and chosen by members of CoSIDA.
