Painter Next Presenter in Visual Artist Series at SUNY Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, NY __ Martha Castillo will be the next presenter in the Visual Artist Series at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh on Monday, March 21 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cardinal Lounge, Angell College Center.

Castillo is a painter, originally from Massachusetts, who currently resides in Palo Alto, Calif. Her work incorporates multiple layers of collage elements, found objects and acrylic paint and results in canvases rich in texture and color.

"I attempt to make work which grows in complexity as it is viewed," said Castillo. "I have come to view color and texture and text as sides of a triangle: my geometry for decoding the simplicities and illuminating the complexities of my world."

Castillo received her bachelor of fine arts degree in theater at Boston University and her master's in art theater from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, Calif.

She is a frequent prizewinner and has exhibited extensively both in and outside of California.  She has had more than 20 solo exhibitions since 1999.

As an active member of the Women's Caucus for Art and the Pacific Art League of Palo Alto, Castillo serves on gallery and exhibition committees and teaches art to children and adults. She also donates work annually to the acclaimed KTEH Public Television Art Auction in San Jose, Calif.

The Visual Artist Series is sponsored by the Campus Arts Council and the Student Association and is free and open to the public.
