Operation Smile Raising Grins and Heels with 5k Run
SUNY Plattsburgh’s Operation Smile Club will host a 5k walk/run Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. outside Memorial Hall on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus.
Pre-registration begins at 10 a.m. followed by the race at 11 a.m. Registration is $20 with a T-shirt or $15 without a T-shirt. All proceeds will be donated to Operation Smile, a charity that provides free surgery to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the world.
In addition to the race route through campus, the 5k walk/run will include Zumba, refreshments and face painting.
“This is a fun way for us to raise awareness of facial deformities such as the common cleft lip,” said club member Breanna Syslo. “We want to help children feel beautiful by transforming their smile.”
The SUNY Plattsburgh Operation Smile Club was formed in 2012 and has raised enough money to provided 15 reconstructive surgeries for children around the world who were born with facial deformities.
