NYS Procurement Assistance Center at North Country SBDC Announces Free Bid-Matching Service
The New York State Procurement Assistance Center at SUNY Plattsburgh’s North Country Small Business Development Center is now offering a new service to help local firms find leads to government contracts.
BidLinx is a government contract “bid-matching” service; it is a Web-based program that monitors thousands of bid sources on the Internet and sends email notices of opportunities tailored to match a firm’s products, services and capabilities. These bid sources include:
• Federal government agencies including military.
• State agencies and authorities.
• County and local governments.
• All 50 states.
• U.S. territories.
• International government websites.
Established in 1984, the PAC at SUNY Plattsburgh is the government contracting resource center for all of the North Country. The PAC assists local small businesses in navigating the often-complex process of doing business with federal, state and local government agencies.
"A bid-matching service can cost hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars,” said Jim King, state director of the SBDC, “As a result of funds received from the Small Business Jobs Act, we are pleased to offer BidLinx free of charge to NYS SBDC clients statewide.”
In 2010, the federal government awarded $98 billion in government contracts exclusively to small businesses, the largest single-year increase in more than five years.
“In the past two years, our procurement advisers statewide have stepped up their efforts to help small businesses learn how to get their share of government contracts,” SBDC Interim Director Karen Stehlin said. “BidLinx is another tool in our box of resources that we can offer to our clients.”
Finding appropriate bid opportunities is one of the key hurdles to government contracting. With more than 87,000 agencies at the federal, state, county and local levels, it is overwhelming for an individual to monitor all of them. BidLinx can save a small-business owner hours of research by delivering bid notices based on very specific criteria describing the firm’s capabilities.
“With more than 2,000 sources monitored daily and more than 140 in New York state alone, BidLinx is sure to open new doors to government contracting opportunities for our clients, especially at the county and municipal levels,” said SBDC Government Contracting Coordinator Roxanne Mutchler.
