New University Police Officers Join SUNY Plattsburgh Ranks


Two new SUNY Plattsburgh University Police officers were sworn into service Friday afternoon in the Office of the President.

Justin Courtade, 24, of Lakeview, N.Y., and Derek Wiebel, 26, of Hannibal, N.Y., took the oath of office from President John Ettling before family members and SUNY Plattsburgh Chief of Police Jerry Lottie, Assistant Chief of Police Patrick Keleher, and Vice President for Student Affairs Bryan Hartman. 

Courtade graduated from St. Francis High School in Athol Springs, N.Y. and Utica College with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

Wiebel, who with his wife, Danielle, have a newborn son, graduated from Hannibal High School in Hannibal, N.Y., and SUNY Brockport with a bachelor’s degree in sports management.

Both officers will begin training at the Zone 9 Municipal Police Academy in Plattsburgh Aug. 31.
