Music, Theatre Events Scheduled for December
PLATTSBURGH, NY __ The Music and Theatre Departments at Plattsburgh State University of New York are presenting several events in December. For more information on the following events, contact the Music and Theatre Departments at 518-564-2180.
- ACTS without Words: An Exhibition of Movement will feature performances by dance students of Phillip Cole, adjunct lecturer of theatre, on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. in the Hartman Theatre, Myers Fine Arts Building. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
- The Guitar Ensemble Concert , directed by Michael Fratino, adjunct lecturer of music, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hyman and Frances Krinovitz Recital Hall in Hawkins Hall. Admission is free and all are invited to attend.
- A Faculty Recital featuring Janice Kyle, adjunct lecturer of music, on oboe and Dr. Rose Chancler, adjunct lecturer of music, on piano will be held on Thursday, Dec. 4 at 12:30 p.m. in the Hyman and Frances Krinovitz Recital Hall in Hawkins Hall. Admission is free and all are welcome. Spend a relaxing lunch hour enjoying musical selections by Madeleine Dring, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Emile Paladilhe and others.
- The Plattsburgh State Music Department
is proud to host the 20th anniversary Concert of the Champlain Valley Oratorio Society
joined by the Plattsburgh State Choral Union on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. in the
E. Glenn Giltz Auditorium, Hawkins Hall. Carols and Choruses for Christmas will be
performed with a large orchestra under the director of Jo Ellen Miano, associate professor
and chair of music. She will be joined by guest conductor Richard Probert, founder
of the Champlain Valley Oratorio Society and former director of the Center for Music,
Theatre and Arts at Plattsburgh State. Featured music includes favorite choral selections
from Handel's Messiah and the magnificent holiday work, Many Moods of Christmas, arranged
by Robert Shaw and distinguished American composer/arranger Robert Russell Bennett.
Familiar carols and choruses will fill out the program, including several sing-along
moments for the audience. General admission tickets ($12/$10 non-Plattsburgh State
students) are available from Society members, Peacock Music, Imagine That Toys and
the Council on the Arts for Clinton County, and will also be available at the door.
Plattsburgh State student tickets ($2) are available only at the Angell College Center
Information Desk until Dec. 5 (these tickets will not be available at the door and
must be purchased in advance).
