Micheels Named Interim Sports Information Director; Chapin Fills Assistant Director Position

PLATTSBURGH, NY__ Brian Micheels, current assistant women's soccer coach at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, has been named the interim sports information director effective August 1.

Micheels, a former sports information director at the College (1992-2000), is filling the position vacated by Kelly Vergin, who resigned to become the sports information director at SUNY Brockport. Micheels will remain in his role as assistant women's soccer coach while a search is conducted to permanently fill the position.

A native of Middletown, N.Y., Micheels received his undergraduate and master's degrees from Plattsburgh State in 1990 and 2000, respectively.

A four-year starter, two-time captain and three-time team MVP on the Cardinal soccer team, Micheels was named Male Athlete of the Year in 1990-1991 and was an all-SUNYAC pick from 1988 to 1990.

Kerry Chapin, former women's basketball player at SUNY Plattsburgh, will be joining Micheels as the assistant sports information director. She received her bachelor's degree in education from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1998.

As a player, Chapin was a senior-year captain and team MVP. A dual record-holder in most three-pointers in a season and three-point percentage, Chapin was also an all-SUNYAC pick in 1998.

Directly following graduation, Chapin served as an assistant women's basketball coach at the College for one year. She then served as an admission advisor at Plattsburgh State from 2000 to 2005.

Micheels and Chapin can be contacted in the Sports Information Office on the lower level of Memorial Hall at 518-564-4148.
