Men's Soccer Lands Two on NSCAA All-East Team
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced its NCAA Division III all-region teams over the weekend with Pat Shaughnessy and Erik Hakim earning spots on the 2011 NSCAA All-East Team.
Pat Shaughnessy receives All-East First Team accolades for the first time in his career. The senior forward from Plattsburgh is one of two State University of New York Athletic Conference players to garner first team recognition. Shaughnessy is a three-time All-SUNYAC honoree. The postseason awards cap a career year for Shaughnessy who was the conference leading scorer with 33 points. Shaughnessy tallied 14 goals, including seven game-winners, in his final season. He finished his Plattsburgh career with 42 goals and 14 assists for 98 points. Shaughnessy’s 42 career goals tie him for fourth all-time in program history.
Erik Hakim, who is also receiving his first all-region honor, landed a spot on the third team. A junior back out of Toronto, Ontario, Hakim earned All-SUNYAC First Team accolades in November after stepping up in 2011 to lead a young Plattsburgh defense that allowed 1.30 goals per game and posted eight shutouts. The Cardinals’ team captain was also named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Cardinal Classic tournament earlier this fall.
