Men's Soccer Lands Three on SUNYAC All-Conference Teams

Pat Shaughnessy, Erik Hakim and Nate Economou of the men’s soccer team were named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference All-Conference Teams announced Tuesday.

Shaughnessy receives first team accolades for the first time in his career. The senior forward from Plattsburgh is a three-time All-SUNYAC honoree, earning a spot on the second team in 2008 and 2010. The postseason awards cap a career year for Shaughnessy who was the conference leading scorer with 33 points. Over the weekend, Shaughnessy was also named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team for his play during the Cardinals’ postseason. He finished his Plattsburgh career with 42 goals and 14 assists for 98 points. Shaughnessy’s 42 career goals tie him for fourth all-time in program history.

A junior back out of Toronto, Ontario, Hakim earns the first all-conference nod of his career. Hakim finds himself on the All-SUNYAC First Team after stepping up in 2011 to lead a young Plattsburgh defense that allowed 1.30 goals per game and posted eight shutouts. The Cardinals’ team captain was also named Defensive Most Valuable Player of the Cardinal Classic tournament earlier this fall.

Economou represents Plattsburgh on the third team and is one of just four freshmen to earn all-conference honors. The Vestal, N.Y. native had a breakout rookie campaign for the Cardinals as a midfielder. Economou was also named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team over the weekend after tallying two goals in Plattsburgh’s SUNYAC quarterfinal game against Potsdam.
