Men's Basketball Coach Tom Curle Hits 500th Career Win
SUNY Plattsburgh men’s basketball coach Tom Curle notched his 500th career win as a college coach Nov. 15 with a non-conference road win over Clarkson University, 84-68, in the season opener for both teams.
Curle has a 500-300 record across a career that spans 29 seasons. He has accumulated that mark during his time at Alfred State (1988-1997), Post University (1997-2002), SUNYIT (2002-2003), and SUNY Plattsburgh, from 2003 to the present.
Curle, a 1982 Plattsburgh alumnus who then earned his master’s in administration and leadership in 2011, was named head coach July 30, 2003. He has led the Cardinals to four SUNYAC championships and six NCAA tournaments. His 3007-2008 team finished 16-0 in conference play and 27-3 overall, advancing to the Sweet 16. The 2013-2014 Cardinals also reached the Sweet 16 after a second-place finish in the conference and two straight home wins in the national tournament. Curle’s .625 winning percentage is a program best.
Plattsburgh rises to 1-0 with the Clarkson win and hosts Elms College at home to open up the Cardinal Classic Friday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
