Lyric Scenes Workshop to Give Performance
SUNY Plattsburgh's Department of Music will present two performances of “Out of Context” by Lyric Scenes Workshop students Saturday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m. in Hartman Theatre in the Myers Fine Arts Building.
“The students have enjoyed studying an eclectic mix of repertoire, which includes opera, operetta and musical theater,” said Timothy Morningstar, director. “The class is excited to present its final project to the community.”
Music director Dr. Karen Becker will accompany the students in a program that includes songs, arias and ensemble numbers by composers including Leonard Bernstein, Georges Bizet, Marvin Hamlisch and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Lyric Scenes Workshop is a performance-based music class with an emphasis on the preparation of songs, ensembles and scenes from the lyric stage. The course culminates in a fully staged workshop performance. This semester, all of the performers are music or theater students.
The performance is free and open to the public.
